Families in Araku Valley typically survive on less than $2 a day

  • Adoption of shifting cultivation has stripped the land of nutrients and left the soil degraded

  • Smallholdings provided by the government have been underutilised, with owners often spending their time on alternative informal work

  • Smallholders lack the knowledge and financial resources to productively farm their land

Project Approach

Combining carbon removals with agricultural income is integral to project longevity

We work with smallholders to help them become independent organic crop producers. This is achieved with agroforestry education, provision of resources, and fostering a sense of ownership. Through this approach, we create long-lasting positive outcomes for the communities and natural environment.

Increasing awareness and capacity building on agroforestry methods, involving the integration of trees with crops to enhance quality and yields
Families are given silver oak and coffee saplings free of cost, the former providing the necessary coffee shade conditions and generating carbon credit income
Employment and training of local people to provide ongoing support to farmers
